How is sheet thickness selected?+
From the standard sheet thickness series: the smallest value covering the part nominal plus milling allowances.
What is nesting on a commercial 1500×3000 sheet?+
The calculator places blanks on a typical supplier sheet format, accounts for gaps between blanks, and shows parts per sheet and batch gross weight.
Can I export sheet norming to PDF?+
Yes — after calculation a PDF report with thickness, blank size, batch mass and UF is available for purchasing or the customer.
Norming parameters
Material selection for round bar, hexagon, forgings and sheet. For sheet — standard thicknesses, commercial sheet nesting and a PDF report.
Step 1. Finished part geometry (clean drawing dimensions)
After milling/grinding — used to synchronize the sheet thickness in step 3.
Step 2. Processing parameters and allowances
Added to the clean size on each side before selecting thickness and nesting: blank size = clean size + allowance×2.
Added to the clean thickness before selecting the sheet nominal: minimum = clean thickness + this allowance (removal from top/bottom).
Lets you calculate UF and chip weight accurately when the part has large holes, pockets or lightening cut-outs.
Step 3. Purchased material parameters (blank)
Minimum for the part: 10 mm (clean thickness + allowance). Only standard catalog thicknesses are available.
Affects batch weight, sheet nesting and UF.
Step 4. Commercial sheet parameters
Nesting is based on the cut-out size of one part (with allowance and gap), comparing 0° and 90° orientations.

Calculation methodology and material consumption norming
The calculator selects the sheet thickness from the standard series, calculates the blank size with allowances, the nesting on a commercial format and the batch UF.
What the algorithm accounts for
Allowances: per side (contour) and in thickness — so that the blank contains the finished part after machining.
Nesting: number of parts on a commercial sheet taking the gaps between cut-outs into account; kerf/gap width protects against “eaten” material.
Net weight correction: for complex geometry or holes — a reduction percentage or the exact mass from CAD.
Mathematical basis of the calculation
The mass of a sheet blank is calculated as the volume of a cuboid or disk multiplied by density. UF compares the batch net weight with the gross purchase weight.
